Former Barcelona striker Hristo Stoichkov has made controversial comments regarding Real Madrid, claiming that discussing the capital club makes him sick.
The Bulgarian made the remarks to Ona FM after being present as Lionel Messi collected his European Golden Shoe award for his goalscoring exploits during the 2009-10 season.
When asked if he felt that Barcelona and Real Madrid’s squads were of a similar standard, Stoichkov was unequivocal in his opinion of los Blancos.
He blasted: “To speak of them [Real Madrid] makes me sick. I never liked talking about that team. If you ask me questions about another team, I will answer you.”
The focus then shifted swiftly to the current form of Barcelona and the World Cup-winning squad of Spain, to which he offered a more enthusiastic response, saying: “This Barcelona team have made history, this coach is here to stay and our 110 years of history will always make Barcelona the biggest club in world football.
“Barcelona will prove to be the top scorer in the league this season. The player who scored the World Cup winning goal is scored by a player from Barcelona. Need I say more?
“We must also be respectful to other players who played in the World Cup with Spain. Sergio Ramos is a great defender, Iker Casillas has been at a high level. Xabi Alonso also had a great World Cup. These players also made history.”
